First day of travel, May 24

Don’t forget: Internet Explorer is an unreliable browser to be using for viewing these pages, being notoriously noncompliant to accepted web standards. I know that earlier versions of IE do not display these pages correctly at all, and since IE is no longer being produced for Macintosh, I don’t have any way of checking the performance of its latest versions.

I strongly recommend using Firefox instead.

We started the adventure by getting picked up at some ungodly hour by SuperShuttle—I think it was about four in the morning, since the picture of Mark above was taken a little after five. Continental checkin and security are never the least bit unpleasant, so we had nothing to do but wait.

The flight was to Newark, and we had enough time there to get a meal at Gallagher’s, which is a fairly decent place within the Continental terminal of EWR to get food at. Then we piled on to the overnight flight for Fiumicino, the Rome airport.
