August 9

map

Mark driving We left fairly early from Pasadena, and there were interesting things to see along the road before we got to Mammoth Lakes, but nothing really picturesque. You’ll see that we’ve taken unnumberable pictures of each other, usually while the other guy is snapping a picture of something good. Here, though, Mark is doing the driving northwards—in fact he did almost all the driving the whole trip. Don’t forget, to get back from any picture, hit the “Back” button on your browser.

tall trees in M L Once we got to Mammoth Lakes and got settled in our motel, we drove around to some steep terrain, where we could look directly out at the tops of trees. Large image, (1024 by 1536 pixels, about 250K), small, (512 by 768, about 72K; you can also see the small pictures by clicking on the thumbnails).

outcropping in M L another view of same rugged terrain in M L From the same vantage point, there were impressive outcrops and rugged terrain. Left thumbnail (large image; small), center (large image; small), right (large image; small), and this also shows Trusty Dusty, which got us all the way up to Vancouver and back without incident.
